Free Enrichment Programs at St. Joseph: Academic Tutoring: Available to all students by a parent or teacher request, tutoring matches St. Joseph students with volunteers that help in anything from reading to essay writing. Tutoring runs one or two days a week and extra tutoring is always available for special circumstances. Chess: Available to 4th and 5th grade students, the St. Joseph ChessClub teaches everything from basic moves to advanced strategy. All skill levels are welcome! Music: Run by the St. Joseph’s music teacher, the after school club for older students incorporates singing and rhythm instruments into an original end of the year performance. Choir: Available to the whole school, Choir offers students the chance to learn church music. The school choir performs the first Friday of every month at school services. Mock Trial: Open to 7th and 8th graders who qualify academically, Mock Trial offers students the chance to write and act out parts as lawyers, witnesses, jurors, and reporters. Professional New York lawyers coach and prepare students for their final trial in a real New York City courtroom. Classroom Inc: Available to all interested students and led by St. Joseph teachers, Classroom Inc. offers computer based group projects that help build team work, math skills, and writing. Newspaper: Available to older students who qualify academically, newspaper allows St. Joseph students write, edit, and compile their own articles into the bi-annual St. Joseph Express. Photography: Available to older students who qualify academically, the photography club is taught by a professional photographer who works with students to take photos of everything from school equipment to the changing neighborhood. Photo projects are compiled and displayed at the end of the year. Yearbook: Available to students in the upper grades, this club offers students the chance compile and edit the school’s annual yearbook. |
