St. Joseph School challenges its students with rigorous core courses. All
curricula follow New York State guidelines.Language Arts and Reading: Literacy is a key asset for success in life and a high priority for our faculty and staff. From Basal Reading and Phonics instruction in Kindergarten to a literature based curriculum in the upper grades, students of all abilities leave St. Joseph with the writing skills and reading comprehension necessary in high school. The Library Connections Program has expanded the St. Joseph library collection immensely and integrated library use with classroom curricula. A full-time librarian works with teachers to instill valuable research skills and a genuine enthusiasm for reading across a broad range of topics. Math: In the lower grades, instruction focuses on applications such as counting, simple addition and subtraction and measurement concepts. As students become older, the courses integrate academic concepts such as complex computation and fractions. Students are invited in the eighth grade to enter an advanced Regents track which allows for Calculus in high school. Science: In the lower grades, students study a tri-science curriculum that incorporates Physical, Earth and Life Sciences. The 7th and 8th grades spend the year studying Life Science and Earth Science respectively. All students have the opportunity to learn hands-on in the school's lab and during field trips to museums and parks. Religion: Students receive daily value-based instruction in Scripture, morality and dogma, Sacramental Preparation. First Friday Mass, daily prayer and other liturgical services unite the school community. Where Our Graduates Go to High School With strong study skills, a desire to learn and a demonstrated commitment to academic success, our graduates are highly attractive to top high schools.
